breaklinkoverview

The installation as a whole is an artistic transposition of the experiences and questions that the event known as «Genoa» raised at various emotional and intellectual levels. It captivates all the senses and penetrates into the realms of unconscious perception. There is also a section with a documentary character: the visitors have access to a series of original documents in video, audio, and print. Equipped with a bar and an italian-ice stand, this place invites you to stay and stimulates personal exchanges. What happens and can develop in this exciting context that has simply been placed at your disposal, depends on the visitors, who become actors and actresses.

Entering into the Great Hall that hosts the exhibition (1500 square meters, fifteen meters high) we find ourselves submerged in a universe that is both specific and thematic, designed to be strongly emotional. The room is plunged into shadow, while each installation is illuminated. Approching them, we perceive more clearly the sounds and murmurs.

«le Geometrie della Memoria» is a tour through the streets of Genoa. All across the room, thanks to the play of light and shadow, there is the sea, watching stoically and silently, a peaceful escape.

The floor is carpeted with photographs, broken bottles, stones, tatters of clothing, and various burned objects. To reach the intallations at the end of the room, you must clear a path through the field of images. Perhaps one of them catches your eye: as you approach to have a closer look, you discover more sounds and voices, broadcast via hidden speakers.

When you reach a model of a classical plaster gate, you enter into the People’s Garden. This place, intended for solidarity, encounters and constructive confrontations represents an installation in itself. The floor is made of artificial grass, and the walls are clothed with life-sized images of the «Genoa people». There are audio and video recordings, as well as an Internet station for the visitors' use. The garden can hold 150 people and can transform itself into a conference room or workshop space.
