A metal consruction, covered with a yellow-and-black-striped tarpaulin, hiding an aquarium containing living fish. Surveillance cameras constantly film these fish, from five sides at once. The images are simulaneously reproduced on five screens placed on a metal table over the fish tank. Three peepholes have been poked in the tarpaulin, allowing one to see inside the real aquarium, in the middle of the installation. This reveals the state of humanity: the human being who strains to remove himself or herself from the surveillance that makes up his or her daily reality. The mechanisms of control are, particularly in more «developed» societies, omnipresent in the different sectors of life such as public information, public health, school, etc. In their aquarium, the fish do not perceive this: they find themseslves in a state of innocent powerlessness: a few drops of poison on the water would be enough to kill them all. Sounds: the hum of the electrical transformer. Constant, haunting, it enters into your unconscious perception. |
